Shandong Fuyang Biological Starch Co., Ltd. (Fuyang Starch) currently uses most of its evaporated and concentrated corn steep liquor for corn fiber spraying and external sales.
This limits the added value of corn steep liquor and increases the burden on the company’s wastewater treatment system. Consequently, Fuyang Starch has decided to develop downstream products by constructing a Candida utilis protein production project, based on its existing production capacity.
On 13 May, the public notice of the environmental impact assessment documents for its Candida utilis protein project was publicized again prior to the approval.
Project overview
- Nature: Reconstruction
- Location: Pingyuan Economic Development Zone, Shandong Province
- Total investment: USD2.8 million (RMB 20 million)
- Construction content:
- The project will rely on the existing corn steeping and pulp system, warehouse, and public auxiliary works of Fuyang Starch.
- It will also utilize the fermentation system of the existing erythritol production workshop of Shandong Fuyang Biological Technology Co., Ltd. (the parent company of Fuyang Starch, located within the same factory complex).
- The corn steeping system and the erythritol workshop’s fermentation system will be upgraded.
- Over ten sets of new equipment will be added, including a forced circulation evaporator, a thick pulp tank, a pelletizing bed, a cooling bed, and a packaging system.
- Once completed, the existing erythritol product line of Shandong Fuyang Biological Technology Co., Ltd. will be discontinued.
- Product plan: 30,000 t/a of Candida utilis protein.
- Key raw materials: 8,820 t/a of 10% corn steep liquor.
- Labor quota: No new employees
- Working system: Three 8hr shifts per day, 330 working days per year.
- Construction period: The project is expected to be completed by June 2025.
