Heilongjiang Eppen’s 450,000 t/a of Amino Acids Project

On 18 Nov., the Daqing Municipal Ecology and Environment Bureau published its proposed approval opinion on the environmental-impact report for Heilongjiang Eppen Biotechnology Co., Ltd. (Heilongjiang Eppen)’s 450,000 t/a of amino acids project.

Project Overview

Location: Deligor Industrial Park, Duerbote Mongol Autonomous County, Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province
Total investment: RMB2,949.10 million, of which RMB 93.22 million is for environmental protection
Construction content: Construction of new production lines for glucose, threonine, and monosodium glutamate (MSG/sodium glutamate), along with supporting facilities including fertilizer, starch processing, and glutamic acid residue lines, as well as related utilities. The project will have a production capacity of 450,000 t/a of various amino acids and by-products such as corn steep liquor, corn gluten meal, corn germ, sprayed corn bran, and glutamic acid residue.
Product plan: 200,000 t/a of L-threonine, 250,000 t/a of MSG (sodium glutamate), 219,099 t/a of organic fertilizer, 42,928 t/a of glutamic acid residue (MSG residue), 144,900 t/a of corn steep liquor, 72,450 t/a of sprayed corn bran, 51,750 t/a of corn gluten meal, 77,625 t/a of corn germ, 55,692 t/a of threonine mother liquor
Key raw material: about 1,000,000 t/a of corn
Labor quota: 700 employees
Working system: Four-shift, three-rotation schedule; 8 hours per rotation; 345 working days totaling 8,280 hours per year
Construction period: Nov. 2025 to March 2027

Currently, Heilongjiang Eppen processes about 925,000 t/a of corn to produce 100,000 t/a of feed-grade L-threonine, 130,000 t/a of feed-grade 98.5 % lysine hydrochloride, 170,000 t/a of feed-grade 70 % L-lysine sulfate, 57,000 t/a of corn germ, 33,000 t/a of sprayed corn bran, 44,000 t/a of corn gluten meal, 52,000 t/a of corn steep liquor, and 114,000 t/a single-protein amino-acid feed.

Dongbei Fufeng completed Glutamic Acid Expansion Project

According to the monitoring report publicized on 31 Dec., 2024, Hulun Buir Dongbei Fufeng Biotechnology Co., Ltd. (Dongbei Fufeng) has completed its glutamate efficient strain development and 200,000 t/a of amino acid production line project.

- Construction of small and pilot production amplification platform:
  - Purchased 81 sets of related small and pilot R&D equipment to further enhance its research and development capabilities and small and pilot scale amplification platform.
- Corn processing process:
  - Reconstructed by replacing a small amount of equipment to ensure production stability.
  - The corn processing capacity increased from 1,000,000 t/a to 1,052,657 t/a, and the capacity of starch slurry (dry base) increased from 700,000 t/a to 736,800 t/a.
- Sugar production process and glutamic acid production process:
  - Relying on the existing production workshop, replaced, transformed, and added a small amount of equipment to ensure production stability.
  - Using the successfully upgraded glutamic acid production strains, the capacity of sugar solution (dry base) increased from 510,000 t/a to 545,000 t/a, and the capacity of glutamic acid (used to produce sodium glutamate) increased from 200,000 t/a to 250,000 t/a.
- Labor quota: No new hires
- Working system: Three 8hr shifts per day, 330 production days per year.

  - Approval of EI report: 30 Oct., 2020
  - Construction starts: 23 Nov., 2020

Currently, Dongbei Fufeng can process 1,052,657 tons of corn to produce 100,000 t/a of threonine, 250,000 t/a of sodium glutamate, 102,100 t/a of corn husk, 49,470 t/a of corn gluten meal, and 78,950 t/a of corn germ.

Livzon Ningxia Completed L-phenylalanine Upgrading Project

- Tryptophan, L-isoleucine, and L-phenylalanine are produced alternately for 147 days, with three production schemes throughout the year:
  - Producing solely 4,000 t/a of tryptophan；
  - Simultaneously producing 2,000 t/a of tryptophan and 2,000 t/a of L-isoleucine；
  - Producing solely 4,000 t/a of L-isoleucine.
- Main raw materials: The production of 4,000 t/a of tryptophan requires approximately 23,000 t/a of glucose (purchased).
- Labor quota: No new employees
- Progress:
  - Start construction: March 2024
  - Completion: Jun. 2024

Henan Julong’s L-tryptophan technical transformation project

On 30 Sept., the local environment protection bureau accepted and publicized the environmental impact report of Henan Julong Biological Engineering co., Ltd. (Henan Julong)’s L-tryptophan production line technical transformation project.

Construction contents: Technical transformation was carried out on the basis of the existing 2000 t/a of L-tryptophan production line, the strain of the production line was replaced, and three new products of L-valine, L-shikimic acid and clostridium butyricum were produced by fermentation process, and storage tanks, mixing tanks, freezers, evaporative condensers, centrifuges, dryers, baking boxes and supporting facilities were added.

Product plan: After the completion of the project, the production scale changed from 2,000 t/a L-tryptophan to 135 t/a L-tryptophan, 1,233 t/a L-valine, 150 t/a L-shikimic acid, 474 t/a clostridium butyrate

Main raw material: 15,335 t/a liquid glucose (self-produced)

Henan Julong has completed several projects, and it takes corn as starting material to produce starch slurry and then 200 t/a L-histidine, 372 t/a L-theanine, 102 t/a D-ribose, 582 t/a adenosine, 753 t/a adenine, 1,250 t/a cytosine, 2,700 t/a L-tryptophan, 4,000 t/a cell protein, 400 t/a L-hydroxyproline, 100 t/a cyclic adenosine, 997 t/a L-alanine, 4,032 t/a n-acetylglucosamine, 960 t/a gamma-aminobutyric acid, 1,037 t/a adenosine, 2,880 t/a vitamin B2.
