On 13 Jan., 2026, the environmental impact assessment information for Xinjiang Super Sweet Bioengineering Co., Ltd. (Super Sweet)’s flexible production expansion & retrofit project for amino acid lines was publicized for the 2nd time.

  • Location: Yining Park, Khorgos Economic Development Zone, Ili Kazakh Autonomous Prefecture, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region
  • Total investment: USD4.98 million (RMB35 million)
  • Construction content: Flexible upgrading of the existing line—development of new strains, additional fermenters, air system, reactors, centrifuges, crystallizers, dryers, ceramic membranes, etc.
  • Product plan (newly-added): 1,000 t/a of glucosamine, 120 t/a of D-phenylalanine, 500 t/a of L-histidine, 180 t/a of folic acid, 100 t/a of rebaudioside D&M (RD/RM), 1 t/a of salidroside, 1,000 t/a of nisin
  • Key raw materials: 10,000 t/a of starch, activated carbon, anhydrous Na₂CO₃, 95% ethanol, diatomaceous earth, etc.
  • Labor quota: 450 employees (no additional)
  • Working system: three 8hr shifts per day, 330 working days totaling 7,920 hours per year
  • Construction period: Jan. 2026–Aug. 2026 (8 months).

 

Currently Super Sweet can produce 10,000 t/a of L-phenylalanine, 2,000 t/a of L-tryptophan, 10,000 t/a of aspartame.

  • Total investment: RMB1.3 billion, of which RMB8.48 million is for environmental protection
  • Construction content:
    • A crystalline xylitol production line: add selected equipment, share part of the existing 20,000 t/a of xylitol line; no reduction in current 20,000 t/a of xylitol capacity.
    • A flexible production line: add selected equipment, share part of the existing 20,000 t/a of erythritol line; only one product produced at a time, with no impact on the maximum 20,000 t/a of erythritol capacity.
    • A Stand-alone crystalline allulose production line.
  • Product plan:
    • 30,000 t/a of crystalline xylitol;
    • 40,000 t/a of crystalline maltitol, or 20,000 t/a of sorbitol, or 35,000 t/a of maltitol syrup, or 2,000 t/a of arabinose, or 1,000 t/a of xylo-oligosaccharide, or 10,000 t/a of xylose;
    • 2,000 t/a of crystalline allulose
  • Main raw materials: xylose, 75% maltose syrup, 65% xylose concentrate, crystalline glucose, 70% DS xylose mother liquor, xylo-oligosaccharide feed liquor, 75% fructose syrup, etc.

On 12 Dec., the Liaocheng Ecology and Environment Bureau released the acceptance notice for the environmental impact report of CJ (Liaocheng) Bio-technology Co., Ltd.’s (CJ Liaocheng) 4,550 t/a of food-additives retrofit project.

  • Nature: Technical retrofit
  • Location: Economic & Technological Development Zone, Liaocheng City, Shandong Province
  • Total investment: RMB 110 million
  • Construction content: Upgrade the existing sugar plant, nucleotide fermentation plant and L9 nucleotide refining plant; retrofit the existing IMP-C line and add reactors, high-pressure homogenizers, SDC separators, filter presses, etc., to enable alternating production of IMP (disodium 5′-inosinate) and GMP (disodium 5′-guanylate).
  • Product plan: 6,000 t/a of IMP or 4,550 t/a of GMP
  • Main raw material: corn-starch slurry (purchased)
  • Labor quota: no additional staff
  • Working system: three 8hr shifts per day, 360 working days per year
  • Construction period: 6 months
  • IMP and GMP will be alternated at most once per year; five operating schemes are possible:

Recently, the completion environmental-protection acceptance report for the first-phase of starch deep-processing project—150,000 t/a of crystalline glucose—of Inner Mongolia Yuwang Biological Technology Co., Ltd. (Yuwang Bio) was published on an environmental platform.

Kokdala Jinhai’s 600 kt/a of Corn Deep-Processing & Cogeneration Project

On 27 Oct., Kokdala Jinhai Biotechnology Co., Ltd. (Kokdala Jinhai) convened a rally under the banner “Unite to Win the Commissioning Battle.” Over 400 employees gathered to herald 600 kt/a of Corn Deep-Processing & Cogeneration Project’s transition into the trial-production phase.

 

“The rally sounds the final charge before start-up,” said the deputy general manager for production. “Beginning today, we will commission around the clock. External power, instrument air and utilities are already connected. Corn feed-in is slated for mid-November, with full commercial operation targeted for late March 2026. A detailed schedule has been drafted to reach name-plate capacity and performance as quickly as possible.”

 

Overview of 600 kt/a of Corn Deep-Processing & Cogeneration Project

  • Nature: New construction
  • Location: West Zone, Economic Development Zone, Kokdala City, 4th Division, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region
  • Total investment: RMB 3.712 billion, of which roughly RMB 1 billion is allocated to the captive cogeneration plant
  • Product plan: 115,000 t/a of feed-grade minor amino acids, including 50,000 t/a of L-valine, 30,000 t/a of L-isoleucine, 20,000 t/a of L-tryptophan, and 15,000 t/a of L-arginine, together with approximately 242,000 t/a of assorted by-products, specifically: 40,000 t/a of microbial residue, 66,000 t/a of sprayed corn bran, 30,000 t/a of corn gluten meal, 45,000 t/a of corn germ, 11,000 t/a of sugar residue, and 50,000 t/a of organic fertilizer.

 

Kokdala Jinhai, incorporated in May 2024 with registered capital of RMB 1.215 billion, is 85% owned by Star Lake Bioscience Co., Inc. Zhaoqing Guangdong.

On 18 Nov., the Daqing Municipal Ecology and Environment Bureau published its proposed approval opinion on the environmental-impact report for Heilongjiang Eppen Biotechnology Co., Ltd. (Heilongjiang Eppen)’s 450,000 t/a of amino acids project.

 

Project Overview

  • Nature: Expansion & renovation
  • Location: Deligor Industrial Park, Duerbote Mongol Autonomous County, Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province
  • Total investment: RMB2,949.10 million, of which RMB 93.22 million is for environmental protection
  • Construction content: Construction of new production lines for glucose, threonine, and monosodium glutamate (MSG/sodium glutamate), along with supporting facilities including fertilizer, starch processing, and glutamic acid residue lines, as well as related utilities. The project will have a production capacity of 450,000 t/a of various amino acids and by-products such as corn steep liquor, corn gluten meal, corn germ, sprayed corn bran, and glutamic acid residue.
  • Product plan: 200,000 t/a of L-threonine, 250,000 t/a of MSG (sodium glutamate), 219,099 t/a of organic fertilizer, 42,928 t/a of glutamic acid residue (MSG residue), 144,900 t/a of corn steep liquor, 72,450 t/a of sprayed corn bran, 51,750 t/a of corn gluten meal, 77,625 t/a of corn germ, 55,692 t/a of threonine mother liquor
  • Key raw material: about 1,000,000 t/a of corn
  • Labor quota: 700 employees
  • Working system: Four-shift, three-rotation schedule; 8 hours per rotation; 345 working days totaling 8,280 hours per year
  • Construction period: Nov. 2025 to March 2027

 

Currently, Heilongjiang Eppen processes about 925,000 t/a of corn to produce 100,000 t/a of feed-grade L-threonine, 130,000 t/a of feed-grade 98.5 % lysine hydrochloride, 170,000 t/a of feed-grade 70 % L-lysine sulfate, 57,000 t/a of corn germ, 33,000 t/a of sprayed corn bran, 44,000 t/a of corn gluten meal, 52,000 t/a of corn steep liquor, and 114,000 t/a single-protein amino-acid feed.
